Résumé

This workshop will provide practicing evaluators with an understanding of the basics of program design from a theory-driven evaluation perspective. Participants will learn the five elements of a program design; how they relate to program theory and social science research; and how the process of program design/re-design can guide developmental evaluations. Lecture, discussions, and hands-on group activities will offer a rich, practical perspective on the design of social, health, educational, organizational, and other programs. Examples from evaluation practice will be provided to illustrate main points and key take-home messages.

John Gargani and Steward Donaldson

John Gargani and Stewart Donaldson have decades of program design and evaluation experience as practitioners (both), workshop facilitators (both), and an instructor of graduate-level courses (Donaldson). They are currently co-authoring a book on program design. Donaldson is the author or co-author of numerous articles and books related to theory-driven evaluation and program design, most notably Program Theory-Driven Evaluation Science (2007).
